This large Chinese decorative figure of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is clad throughout in fitted panels of bone or bone-type veneer, set in a mosaic-like triangular pattern and enhanced with polychrome and gilt decoration. Guanyin stands in serene contemplation with a gilded face, an urna on the forehead, and dark upswept hair beneath a flowing hooded headdress. The right hand is raised in a teaching gesture  and the left holds a red vase. She wears layered, flowing robes with gilt scrollwork on a deep red panel, a beaded necklace, and earrings. The back of the robe is decorated with raised gilt cloud scrolls and a scalloped border. The figure stands on a double lotus base painted in red, green, and gold, mounted on a round turned wood plinth. It measures approximately 32" tall. Condition: Scattered wear to the painted and gilt surfaces, visible seams between the veneer panels, and areas of discoloration, all consistent with the decorative construction and display.
