This monumental Chinese porcelain floor vase is decorated in the Rose Medallion (Canton) famille rose palette. The body has large reserve panels of figural court scenes. In the main panel, an official and attendants approach a seated lady on a terrace while armored guards stand by, set against pavilions, palms, and distant mountains. Below, a phoenix soars among blooming peonies. A second panel of scholars in a garden landscape decorates the neck. The panels are framed by densely patterned borders of flowers, butterflies, auspicious objects, and coin motifs, all heightened with gilt. The flared rim and foot are banded with cobalt blue and white cartouches of precious objects. Gilt relief figures are applied at the neck and shoulders, adding sculptural drama. The vase is displayed on a carved hardwood stand with scrolled legs. It's a striking statement piece for an entry, stair landing, or great room. Please see photos for condition.
