This is a large cast bronze after Frederic Remington's celebrated "The Wounded Bunkie," first modeled in 1896. It shows two U.S. Cavalry troopers at full gallop: one rider reaches across to hold up his wounded comrade (his "bunkie," or bunkmate) as their horses race side by side. The horses, tack, uniforms, and equipment are finely modeled, and the bronze has a rich dark brown patina. It is signed "Frederic Remington" in the bronze and mounted on an oval green marble base. This is a later reproduction casting and is not represented as a lifetime Remington bronze. The lot includes a display pedestal, bringing the overall display height to 69". It's a commanding centerpiece for a Western collection, office, or great room. Please see photos for condition.
