This is a pair of large open-arm library chair (fauteuil) in the Georgian and French Régence manner. It has a tall arched upholstered back, padded arms, and a deep seat, all covered in brick-red textured chenille. The walnut-finish frame is richly carved. The arm terminals scroll with acanthus leaves over carved arm supports, and the serpentine seat rail has a rope-twist edge and a central scallop shell flanked by C-scrolls and foliage. It stands on cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees and scrolled feet.
