This is a pair of three-drawer bombé chest in the Continental manner, with a swelled, serpentine-front case finished in black crackle lacquer. The drawer fronts are hand-painted with a flowering bouquet (roses, blue blossoms, and small orange flowers) among large acanthus and feathery foliate scrolls in olive, sage, and cream. A polished black speckled granite top (the "absolute black" or "black galaxy" type) sits inside a carved, ribbed edge molding finished in copper-bronze.
