LOT 281 - Chinese Calligraphy "Du Mu's Mountain Travel" Signed, Sealed and Framed
Description

This is an original Chinese calligraphy in ink on paper, written in bold running-cursive script (xingcao). It is the Tang-dynasty poet Du Mu's (803-852) famous quatrain "Mountain Travel" among the most often-brushed poems in Chinese calligraphy: Far up the cold mountain, a stone path slants; where white clouds rise, there are dwellings. I stop my carriage, loving the maple grove at dusk; frost-touched leaves redder than the flowers of spring. A smaller colophon at left cites the poem by name, gives a (dingmao) year date, and is signed by the calligrapher, followed by a red seal. It is presented under glass in a double mat (white and black) in a black reeded frame, with a pierced brass Chinese-style hanger and a gold silk tassel. Date: dingmao year, most likely 1987 Framed size: 19" x 23" (frame dimensions).
